The Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 Solar Impulse Limited Edition has been designed to celebrate an ambitious project backed by the ESA - European Space Agency and Omega, where an airplane circled the globe powered solely by solar energy, in an effort to highlight awareness about alternatives to non-renewable fossil fuels.
Limited to only 1,924 timepieces, this number is to honour the year that the first round-the-world flight took place when members of the United States Army Air Service flew around the world in 1924. A collaboration with co-pilots Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg, this watch combines both analogue and digital displays, developed to meet the demands of the journey and of the pilots, with two functions that are especially useful for pilots and astronauts: mission elapsed time (MET) and phase elapsed time (PET).
Boasting a wide range of functions (Alarms, Chrono Timer, Three Time Zones & Perpetual Calendar) powered by the multi-functional quartz chronograph movement, OMEGA calibre 5619, and its grade 2 titanium outer caseback is stamped with the Solar Impulse “Around the World” patch and engraved with the name of the timepiece as well as the words “TESTED AND QUALIFIED BY ESA" (European Space Agency).
